PONDA: Taking note of the allegations levelled by Dabal-Kirlapal locals accusing the two mining companies located at Kashti-Kallem in Sanvordem constituency of releasing slurry into the Kalem River, PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar has directed the Water Resources Department officials to conduct inquiry and submit a report.
Claiming that the slurry released in Kalem River later makes its way to Opa water treatment plant, the locals warned the officials of pig and sponge iron plant of two mining companies against releasing the slurry generated in their units, failing which they have threatened to launch an agitation.
The locals alleged that the pits are filled with rainwater and accused the two mining companies of releasing the slurry into the river.
Though the officials at the Opa plant claim that the water is treated and safe to drink; the locals, who have raised health concerns, have demanded that they be provided with clean and safe drinking water.
