PANJIM: The State government has finally begun the process to construct 5,000-capacity convention centre at Dona Paula, by setting up an empowered committee under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to work out the project details.
The convention centre to be built on Public Private Partnership mode at IT Habitat land at Dona Paula will be completed before the 50th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2019.
The five-member empowered committee consists of Minister for Information and Technology Rohan Khaunte, Chairman of Economic Development Corporation (EDC) Siddharat Kuncolienkar and Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) CEO Ameya Abhyankar as its members while Secretary IT is the member secretary.
The committee has to work out the project details of the convention centre and also takes a decision on design, facilities and other related aspects of engineering, procurement and construction.
The committee is also authorised by the Cabinet to take decisions for the smooth execution and progress of the project.
ESG, which is a local host for IFFI, would develop the convention centre to be constructed by creating a special purpose vehicle (SPV) under EDC.
