PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said the government has initiated the process to enable para teachers to acquire the required qualifications.
Speaking on the sidelines of a function at the Secretariat on Saturday, Parrikar said, “You have to understand they (para teachers) don’t have qualification, but we have initiated the process which will enable them to acquire qualification.”
Parrikar said that from the next academic year the government will be paying a fixed amount which will be 90 per cent of the (pay) scale which new teachers get. “If they fail to acquire the required qualification within the stipulated time, I cannot appoint them as teachers,” he said.
He said that qualification cannot be compromised and once the para teachers acquire the qualification they will get the scale.
Para teachers had earlier been striking demanding that their services be regularised. A decision was taken to regularise them with the condition that they acquire the qualification required for being a teacher.
