PANJIM: The State government has set the ball rolling for the auction of land under Special Economic Zone (SEZ), with the formation of a selection committee to finalise a global consultant to advise the government on the matter. Also, a monitoring committee has been put in place to oversee the auction process.
A selection committee headed by Secretary Industries, will initiate and finalise the process of getting onboard a property consultant for SEZ land matters, with an international profile and adequate experience.
The consultant would be finalised, following approval from the government. The committee has to devise a standard procedure for selecting the consultant.
The five-member committee includes the additional secretary finance, under secretary industries, director industries and managing director Goa Industries Development Corporation (GIDC).
On the other hand, the monitoring committee, headed by Industries Minister Vishwajit Rane, will oversee the process of auctioning the land as initiated and taken forward by GIDC.
Leader of Opposition Digamber Kamat has raised objections to the government plan to auction the land. Kamat had said SEZs were scrapped upholding the sentiments of Goans by his government in 2008.
