‘Process to declare vermin animals in prelim stage’

PANJIM: Environment and Forest Minister Rajendra Arlekar on Saturday said that the process to declare certain wild animals as ‘vermin’ (nuisance animal) is in the preliminary stage, as the department is assessing animals involved in damaging crops and properties.
“We receive several complaints that animals have destroyed crops. Officials from the Forest and Agriculture departments subsequently visit the site for verification. Once the department submits the report to the government, it will be placed before the State Wildlife Board for approval and later to National Wildlife Board for a final decision,” he said.
