PANJIM: Old Goa sarpanch Janita Madkaikar along with panchayat members on Wednesday met protestors who are on hunger strike at the St Cajetan Church and assured them that the village panchayat has started the process for demolition of the illegal bungalow built in the heritage zone.
Madkaikar appealed to all the protestors to withdraw their hunger strike and assured them the panchayat’s full support.
The sarpanch told them that the Old Goa panchayat has already started the process for demolition of the structure and demolition will be carried out soon, after following due procedure.
The Old Goa panchayat had earlier issued a stop work order to the illegal construction.
Following protests the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department a fortnight ago had issued a revocation order of the technical clearance granted on October 18, 2016 to Jose Maria Gouveia de Pinto, who was the original owner of the land.
On Wednesday, Congress legal department chairman Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira met the protestors at Old Goa and expressed his solidarity to them.
