PANJIM: Minister Jayesh Salgaonkar on Monday said that Rural Development Agency (RDA) will soon be made into a separate department.
Speaking to Herald, Salgaonkar said, “RDA will be made into a separate government department and will be named as the Department of Rural Development. RDA will be bifurcated from the Panchayat Department. The new department will be directly be linked to MoRD (Ministry of Rural Development)”
He added, “The file has already been moved to the Chief Minister and the department creation process has been initiated. As I was in Zilla Parishad earlier, there were many things which I had observed that RDA could reach out with its various schemes and do a lot of works in the rural areas.”
The Chief Minister had announced in his Budget speech that RDA will soon be a separate department.
Asked about the benefits of a separate department, Salgaonkar said, “RDA, being a part of the Panchayat Department, had limited scope for development works and schemes but now after being a separate department will directly receive funds from MoRD. There will also be no need to approach the Panchayat Minister as it will be a separate department.”
