VASCO: The Chicalim Biodiversity Management Committee in association with Chicalim Villagers Action Committee and Aquamarina Research Foundation held an awareness programme for conservation of marine biodiversity of Chicalim. The focus was on the protection and preservation of the windowpane oyster endemic to the area.
Chicalim is the only place in Goa where windowpane oyster grows. The population of the same has been decreasing every day. The experts informed the gathering that not just for consumption but the oyster has its own medicinal properties and needs to be protected for it.
