Progressive authors’ festival in November

Kanhaiya Kumar, Rajmohan Gandhi, kin of slain intellectuals to be invited

MARGAO: Padmashree Dr Ganesh Devi, at a press conference on Saturday, announced that Dakshinayan Abhiyan, an organisation recently started by progressive authors and activists in Goa, would organise ‘Abhivyakti: Dakshinayan Rashtriya Parishad’ at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on November 18-20. Over 700 progressive writers and social activists from across India are expected to participate in the literary conference.
“The conference will start on November 18 at 3 pm with a big ‘Shoba Yatra’ i.e. procession from Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, which will go through Comba and encircle the Margao municipal garden, pass through the new market and culminate at Lohia Maidan at 5.30 pm,” said Konkani author Datta Naik, who has been elected as president of the Reception Committee.
Konkani author Damodar Mauzo added, “There will be a public meeting at Lohia Maidan from 6 pm to 7.30 pm. We expect to invite Rajmohan Gandhi, Kanhaiya Kumar, Dr Hamid Dabholkar (son of late Dr Narendra Dabolkar), Medha Pansare (daughter-in-law of late Comrade Govind Pansare) and Vallabh Kalburgi (son of late Prof M N Kalburgi), the three intellectuals who were assassinated by fundamentalist forces.” 
On November 19 and 20, there will be sessions in which different topics regarding literature and socio-political issues will be discussed. The conference will conclude after passing a few resolutions.
Cultural programs will also be held on all three days of the conference, and dramatist Atul Pate, film director Anand Patwardhan, Shahir Sambhaji Bhagat and others will participate in the same.
Dr Ganesh Devi is the promoter of Dakshinayan Abhiyan at the national level. So far, he has organised two major events, one of which is the march from Pune to Dharwad via Kolhapur, where Dr Narendra Dabolkar, Comrade Govind Pansare, and Prof Kalburgi were assassinated. The second event of Dakshinayan Abhiyan was Dandi Yatra on Martyrs’ Day (January 30).
Dilip Borkar, Mohandas Lolienkar, Anvesha Singbal and Prashant Naik also attended the press conference on Saturday.
