BICHOLIM: Deputy Speaker and Mayem MLA Anant Shet on Saturday inspected a controversial construction site at Naroa-Bicholim.
The issue of the construction site had rocked the recent gram sabha and residents had requested the MLA to stop further construction work as the project could destroy the mangroves in the village.
Acting on demands of the residents, Shet visited the site to take stock of the situation.
Speaking to reporters at the site, Shet shared the concerns expressed by villaers. “Our government is promoting new projects in the State, but these projects should be set up taking the environment into consideration. If this project is environment-friendly, we will always support such project.”
Shet also felt that the company concerned should come clear on the issue. “The company should make the project clearly known to the panchayat and the government. What is important is the submission of the project report by the company and only then we can think whether the NOC to the project should be granted or not,” he said.
“The company should clearly explain how this project is beneficial to the State and if it is illegal, then we will oppose the project,” said Shet.
About 20 villagers were present along with Shet for the inspection. However, Narve Sarpanch Pratishta Mishal was not present.
