Projects’ funding to be sourced from govt, Finance Commission

MARGAO: The funding for the proposed projects at Sonsoddo will be sourced from the State government and the 14th Finance Commission.

This was revealed by the Secretary of the Urban Development (UD) Department Tariq Thomas who was present for the meeting held on Tuesday at the Sonsoddo garbage dump site.

It may be recalled that UD Minister Vishwajit Rane, who was supposed to attend this meeting, was absent.

“The ongoing bioremediation work (of the legacy dump site) and the clearing of the waste from the existing shed at Sonsoddo will be done by the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) using the Corporation’s funds. For the proposed plants, the municipality has got funds under the 14th Finance Commission, which will be used to take up the (construction) work,” said Thomas.

He added that once GWMC prepares the detailed project report (DRP), they would know the approximate cost for all of this.
