Projects worth `2.5K cr on Goa highways okayed

PANJIM: The Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways has sanctioned Rs 2,500 crore towards development and expansion of national highways, PWD Minister Ramakrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar said on Thursday.

Dhavalikar, on Thursday morning, had a meeting with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, who is on two-day visit to Goa, at which the approval was granted. The meeting was also attended by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar.
“Today, Goa has almost benefited by another Rs 2500 crore as far as national highway development and expansion is concerned,” Dhavaikar told media persons after the meeting.
The projects include expansion of NH 4A, new bridges and resurfacing of road from Dabolim to Verna ahead of the BRICS summit, the minister said.
Dhavalikar said the Ministry has agreed to link the Mumbai-Goa highway to Pollem in South Goa against the earlier plan to connect it up to Patradevi on Goa’s northern border touching Maharashtra.
