PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Monday announced that there would be no supplementary examinations for those students who failed Class IX and XI and instead they would be promoted to next class.
Addressing a press conference, Dr Sawant said Class IX and XI students who fail on average marks will be promoted to next class.

“Supplementary examinations for Class IX and XI students have been cancelled,” he said.
The Chief Minister further said that the government has not made online or offline education compulsory for the students.
“We understand that there are connectivity problems everywhere and also most of the students do not have smart phones,” he said adding, however, 11,000 teachers are being trained for online education.
The Chief Minister said that the government will now announce its Telecom Policy in 15 days to improve connectivity throughout the State.
“We are also in talks with the Doordarshan and private channels for streaming programmes on education,” he said.
He further urged the parents not to buy mobile phones on loans.
Dr Sawant added that there is no decision on school reopening yet.
“No decision yet on school reopening and it will be taken only after review of the situation post July 15,” he said.
While there is no decision on school reopening, the teachers will have to attend the schools compulsory, he added.
“The circular will be out soon and the teachers will have to prepare the worksheets and other related works like book distribution. It is must for all the government and aided schools,” he said.
Speaking further on the complaints of demands of donations by the schools, he said action will be taken against the schools for taking fees or donations for online classes.
“Parents may forward their complaints to the Education Department and we will act accordingly. No donations should be taken for pre-primary schools also,” he said.
Following delay in school reopening, Dr Sawant said, “All vacations this academic year such as Ganesh, Diwali or Christmas will be curtailed to complete the syllabus.”
