MARGAO: Days after the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) inspected the chicken stalls in the SGPDA market, Health officials have directed the stall owners to comply with the provision of safe disposal of waste water and make provision for running water.
After inspection of the premises, the FDA had set a deadline of 15 days for the chicken stalls to obtain the NOCs from the Margao Urban Health Centre. Margao Urban Health Officer Dr Sanjay Dalvi, however, said that the health Act mandates the stall owners to comply with the provisions before they are granted the NOCs as requested by the FDA. “We have asked the stall owners to put in place waste disposal facility at the SGPDA market. They have also been told to make available running water facility at their premises,” Dr Dalvi said, while stating that the Health Centre has also issued a notice to the SGPDA to provide the basic amenities for the stalls owners since the stalls are owned by the PDA.
Stall owners maintained that the PDA should make the arrangements for waste disposal facility since they have been paying rent to the PDA for the stalls. The responsibility of putting in place the waste disposal facility rests with the PDA since the owners pay rent for the premises, remarked an owner.
Replying to question, Dr Dalvi, however, said the Health Centre is empowered to issue provisional NOC to the stall owners before they put in place the requirements within a set time frame.
