BICHOLIM: Heavy rains that lashed Bicholim caused loss of property worth Rs 5 lakh.
Raghunath Gawas from Vhalshim Bicholim suffered a loss of Rs 5000 after his residential house was partially damaged due to a Jambhul tree falling on it. A motor car belonging to Sandesh Chari from Kudne was damaged after a huge jackfruit tree fell on it causing him a loss of Rs 2 lakh. Sanjay Satelkar from Vathadev Bicholim suffered a loss of Rs 5000 due to collapse of jackfruit tree branch on his house.
Chandrakant Kinalkar from Chorao suffered a loss of Rs 30000 due to a coconut tree falling on his house while Umesh Kerkar from Madel Chorao suffered a loss of Rs 20000 due to a tree falling on his house. Jayashri Naik from Usagao suffered a loss of Rs 30000 and Gokuldas Phadte from Vodli Bicholim suffered a loss of Rs 2,00,000 after their houses were damaged due to felling of a forest tree. Electric wires from Lakherem Bordem and, Lamgao, Bhailipeth and Kasarpal were damaged due to falling of tree branches causing a total loss of Rs 15,000.
Meanwhile, heavy rains in Sattari Taluka on Wednesday resulted in flooding of Valpoi town main highway. Locals pushed their motorcycles and others just walked. There were traffic jams at several places.
