MARGAO: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday informed that a proposal for nursing college has been approved and will be taken forward at South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) to provide hands-on experience to nurses, as he inspected the hospital, here, on Friday.
He along with Dr Ira Almeida, Director of Health Services and Dr Deepa Corriae Afonso inspected the SGDH on the occasion of Dussehra.
Speaking to the media persons, the health minister informed that they will be starting OPDs, full-fledged CT scan, X-Ray, High Dependency Unit, PCR Laboratory with latest Roche Machines that conduct 450-500 tests at SGDH.
“We further intend to launch an independent Cardiac unit so that the people of South Goa don’t have to travel to Goa Medical College and Hospital for cardiac emergencies,” he stated.
He said a proposal for a nursing college at the district hospital has been approved and will be further modified and revived. And there are no plans to set up a private medical college at the district hospital.
“We are working on a war footing to shift the facilities of the old Hospico to SGDH, whereas the old Hospicio will cater to TB, Rehabilitation and District Early Intervention Centre,” said Rane.
He said that the official inauguration of the new district hospital will be held at later stages.
“The heritage of old Hospicio will continue to be used by the health services, and it will be renovated like Asilo, for which the dedicated funds of the Central government will be utilised. The original identity of the Hospicio will be maintained,” said the health minister.
According to the health minister, a special doctor will be appointed at SGDH to deal with anolizm, which is related to brain stroke.
“There is no specialist in Goa to deal with the anolizm to date; besides additional doctors for SGDH will be appointed in coming days. The nurses working on the contract system will be regularised,” he said.
