Prosecutor ‘bullied’ for trying to stop rash driving

MARGAO: Clarita Simoes, a public prosecutor at Margao Sessions Court, has complained that she was bullied for trying to stop rash driving at Verna, recently.

On July 16, while driving home to Porvorim from Margao, at around 5.30 pm, Simoes said, she noticed a Maruti Desire taxi (KA-30-A-1064) proceeding at breakneck speed on the Verna slope and while overtaking a jeep, it dashed against a scooter.
Simoes said that she chased the car and forced the driver to stop. She also informed the police of the same. However, on reaching the spot, instead of taking action against the driver, “the police bullied and mocked me”, she said.
She said that she is indignant that the public present there did not support her in her effort to prevent rash driving.
Angry at the attitude of the police, Simoes has demanded an inquiry into the incident and a probe into the role of police in protecting such violators.
