PANJIM: The Core Group of Dakshinayn Abhiyan has decided to stand solidly behind renowned writer Damodar Mauzo who has received life threats from fundamentalist forces involved in the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh.
In a press release, Dakshinayan Abhiyan condemned “Sanatan elements for their cowardly attempts to threaten freedom of expression and instill fear amongst secular and liberal writers and journalists who fearlessly fight regressive feudal forces which are spreading hatred in Indian society.”
Dakshinayan Abhiyan has called upon the Government of Goa to nip these forces in the bud and ban these organisations towards which a needle of suspicion is pointing right from the time of the bomb blast on the eve of Diwali festival in Margao.
“The government cannot shirk its responsibility by just giving protection to Damodar Mauzo since there are a number of other rationalist writers and journalists who have attacked these forces vehemently. Therefore the only solution is to ban such organisations in Goa,” Dakshinayan Abhiyan President Datta Naik said in the press release.
Dakshinayan Abhiyan and friends of Damodar Mauzo in literary circles have decided to hold a public demonstration in Municipal Garden, Panjim on August 1 at 4 pm to condemn the fanatics who threaten the life of Damodar Mauzo and to demand a ban on organisations spreading Sanatan thoughts in Goa.
