Residents of Ecoxim and Pomburpa have taken to the streets in protest against the alleged illegal construction of a massive project on a hillock. The heart of the issue lies in the potential dire consequences posed by this massive project on the local natural springs and the delicate ecosystem of the village. In response, ardent locals have initiated an extensive door-to-door campaign, striving to create awareness about the impending project’s potential repercussions.
At the core of the residents’ grievances is the contention that the construction violates regulations, as the construction falls squarely within a designated no-development zone. They claim that plans entail the construction of nearly 140 villas on 48,000 square meters of land. Locals claim that the land has been converted into a settlement zone illegally.
Despite earnest complaints and persistent appeals made to the local governing body, the panchayat, since April 2023, the grievances raised by the residents have fallen on deaf ears. A measure of hope has now emerged as the panchayat has scheduled a pivotal meeting slated for August 26. This gathering is anticipated to address the mounting concerns and potentially chart a course of action.
With their patience wearing thin, the local populace is unequivocal in its demand for the outright cancellation of the contentious project. The intensifying situation has prompted the residents to consider escalating their efforts, contemplating a legal intervention by seeking the intervention of the High Court.
