CM, police jeeps slip through
CANACONA: Acting on the orders of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to get cracking on the agitators for obstructing highway traffic, SP (Crime) Khasyap immediately directed to post a strong police force on NH17 road in front of JMFC to stop the marching agitators.
Policemen got cracking in ‘Riot Gear’ and immediately cordoned off the area, and even the chief minister’s motorcade and police jeeps were allowed through the barricade which was set-up so instantly.
Tension was running high, as inputs of a strong crowd mostly consisting of women were heading to the police station to meet the chief minister.
As the protesters neared, the women police constables replaced the male police, as mostly women were noticed marching towards the police station. As only few protestors marched and others stayed back at Chaudi, they didn’t force their way but stopped in front of the policemen in riot gear, and began to shout slogans.
While the NH17 road remained blocked, light traffic was diverted via internal road, but soon heavy traffic lined up on both directions of the road. Police asked the agitators to allow a police jeep, and when the crowd made way, police signaled to the heavy traffic to cross over.
