PANJIM: The Institute of Public Assistance (Provedoria) which was accused of refusing shelter to a 70-year-old destitute woman Abida Beig, who was brutally beaten up by a constable at Bicholim last month, refuted the charges saying she was already discharged from the Goa Medical College when they went to bring her to their home.
The IPA said it hopes to shift her to its Old Age Home at Chimbel, from Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity home at St Inez.
Director PK Patidar said the institute had deputed an officer to shift the woman to Old Age home at Chimbel but she was discharged from GMC.
“We deputed liaison officer Surya Kerkar to bring her to Old Age Home at Chimbel, but the GMC authorities informed him that Beig has already been discharged by them and that they did not know her whereabouts. The fact was brought to the notice of Bicholim police on phone and the PSI assured that the police will locate Beig and bring her to Chimbel home,” he said.
