Proving critics wrong – Goa Police winning internet with good deeds

PANJIM: Keeping aside the criticism over stringent enforcement of lockdown order, the prevailing difficult situation has strengthened police-community relationship. Goa police is winning the internet with some good deeds shown during the crisis as well as attending to some distress calls.

On Monday, DySP Uttam Raut Desai, Old Goa PI Krishna Sinhari and their team went beyond their duty call to feed daily wagers, who have been stranded due to the lockdown. The team, besides ensuring lockdown and social distancing norms are being followed by the netizens, served food to the construction workers at Kadamba plateau.

In another instance, PSI Mandar, and constables Nikhil and Prajakta escorted a mother and her newborn from GMC to her village at Verem. Mumtaz Sheikh, 25 year old, had recently delivered at the GMC but was stranded as she was cash-crunched to return home. It was here that the team reached out to the family and safely brought them back home.

As the day ended, police constable Bala of Collem purchased vegetables for senior citizens in the village. “When PC Bala of Collem left for beat duty today, he found that some senior citizens living alone were distressed as they had no fresh ration. Bala took time out from his official duties and brought them some fresh veggies. The blessings he got he says are priceless,” the department said through their official Twitter handle @DGP_Goa.

Goa police, meanwhile, recorded 1336 violations of curfew orders as on Monday, March 30. A total of 126 defiant individuals have so far been arrested, 92 First Information Reports registered and 58 vehicles seized. Rs 3,91,850 has been collected by way of fines collected from the violators.
