PSI ‘hits’ youth for ‘violating’ curfew; transferred

MARGAO: Police Sub-Inspector Tejas Naik, who was heading the police outpost at Rumdamoll, was on Sunday withdrawn from his posting and transferred to the reserve police attached to the Superintendent of Police following a video of him hitting a young man with his lathi while imposing Janata Curfew, went viral.

At Rumdamoll Davorlim since there was a curfew, youngsters went amuck playing on the road and just zipping past on their two wheelers. In fact Tejas reportedly told this particular boy thrice to stop moving around on his vehicle and instead to stay at home.

However, the boy did not pay heed to the advice and came again with his scooter and that is when the PSI hit him with his lathi and in the process even the scooter fell to the ground as the rider did not get an opportunity to pull up the stand.

Superintendent of Police Arvind Gawas disclosed that the PSI has been withdrawn from his posting and he has ordered an enquiry in the matter by the Deputy Superintendent of Police Serafin Dias.

Meanwhile, GPCC President Girish Chodankar reacting immediately to the incident said it was a reflection of the total collapse of administration in Goa and pointed out that the police person was not even wearing his uniform.

However, subsequently after the PSI was removed from his posting Girish thanked the police for their prompt action.
