PSI verbally abusing innocent persons, allege Ponda locals

Demand action; Threaten protest march to police station if the cop doesn’t change behaviour

PONDA: Ponda residents have threatened to hold a protest march to the Ponda police station, if a certain police sub-inspector (PSI) doesn’t stop using abusive language against the public.

The locals complain that the PSI in question abuses citizens in public using filthy language. Locals say that at least on three occasions the PSI in question publicly abused three innocent persons using filthy language. A video of the PSI abusing a person in the presence of his family members has also gone viral on social media.

Shankar Naik, an alleged victim of the PSI’s abuse, questioned: “Who gave him the right to abuse the citizens using filthy language? If a citizen violates the law, then, take action against him; take him into custody and prosecute him under the law.”

“Instead taking lawful action, the said PSI not only rudely speaks, but also hurls filthy words publicly in front of even female family members. His words are insulting to the parents of the victim; this is intolerable,” he said.

He claimed that when the PSI verbally abused him he maintained calm out of respect for the uniform. “However, the behavior of the PSI is unbearable,” he said.

The PSI allegedly verbally abused Naik and his son during Shigmo festival at Shiroda. “Other than beating the drum at the festival, we did nothing wrong,” Naik emphasised.

It is alleged that since the start of the lockdown, the PSI has been arrogantly behaving with people at Curti.

According to Naik, if no action is taken against the PSI, after the lockdown, the Ponda residents will certainly hold a protest march to the police station.

Meanwhile, Naik has appealed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to look into matter and take action against the PSI.
