PANJIM: The female companion, who accompanied accused Zaine Keith Almeida in the sword attack case outside Down The Road pub on Sunday, could face legal action if evidence shows that she helped him flee from the crime spot.
The girl, whose identity has not been revealed by the police, is incidentally one of the witnesses in the sword attack case against Zaine. Two locals – Raju Sarin and Rafael Perogrino Da Costa, both of whom were stabbed on their neck and face are undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College.
“During the ongoing investigation, if we find she helped the accused flee from the spot and did not inform the police about the incident, then she could be made an accomplice in the case. However, it is too premature to speak at this stage,” said an officer.
The Panjim police are building a watertight case against the 23-year-old Zaine as around 15 eye-witnesses have corroborated the complainant’s account of the incident. The police have however failed to trace the attack weapon till date even as the accused, charged with attempted murder, is undergoing custodial interrogation.
