Excise Dept says sale of liquor through any medium is banned

PANJIM: Excise Department has informed that sale of liquor through any medium is banned in the State, after reports of online liquor fraud surfaced this week. Excise Commissioner Amit Satija has requested people to report about the violation to the department, police or local administration. 

“There is absolute ban on sale of liquor through any medium in Goa as per the instructions of the Government in view of COVID-19. Please intimate any violation to Excise Dep, Police or local administration immediately,” he tweeted. 

Goa Police also took to Twitter asking citizens to be alert and report the matter to the authorities concerned. “Please be alert! Don’t lose your hard earned money. Let us know! Reach out to #goapolice @satija_amit,” the official twitter account of Goa police wrote.

The Goa Liquor Traders Association, during the late hours of Wednesday, reported about online frauds in the name of home delivery of liquor. 

The Association President Dattaprasad Naik, in a press release stated, “Some online frauds have started collecting money online in the name of Home Delivery of Liquor by uploading fake profiles of many prominent Wine Shops in Goa. The association members are not carrying out any sort of home delivery of liquor towards ONLINE PAYMENTS. This is a fraud done by some elements sitting outside Goa.”
