PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday stated in the Legislative Assembly that the government will introduce a Bill streamlining operations of public crematoriums and burial places, to ensure dignified cremation or burial for the deceased, during the next Assembly session.
Sawant assured this to Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, who brought to his notice about the obstruction for conducting funeral of a woman at Paliem-Mandrem for one day. The incident occurred a few days ago. He cited the Supreme Court verdict regarding the right to dignity for the dead and urged the government to implement the Goa Law Commission’s report on Public Crematoria and Burial Places.
