Public demand hygienic bathrooms in courts

The public of South Goa have one unique New Year resolution for the two major courts of Margao. They want the district and civil court to have clean and hygienic bathrooms in 2016.
People who visit the courts have complained that the toilets are not maintained properly and reek of a foul smell. The women, both lawyers and litigants, have said that the stench is unbearable. At times when they have to spend many hours at the court, it is very frustrating as they don’t feel like using the bathrooms because of its pathetic conditions.
“The toilets are in a bad shape. The filthy stench greets everyone. The Association has been following it up and some sanitation is expected to be in place shortly,” said South Goa Advocates Association (SGAA) President Rajeev Gomes.
A lawyer pointed out that the two court buildings attract a large number of people daily and that it is essential that they are provided with clean bathrooms. There are also no public bathrooms nearby, the lawyer quipped.
The lawyers said they had raised the issue with the authorities in the past but their complaints had fallen on deaf ears. No respite whatsoever has been forthcoming till today, they claimed.
