MARGAO: Public service is relevant or done only as long as one occupies a public office at least this is what happened in Guirdolim where the panchayat members were forced to remove the cage set up to collect the plastic waste as a person was not elected as a panchayat member this time around.
A huge cage where the plastic was collected till the officials of the Solid Waste Management Committee would collect it was erected close to the residence of then panchayat member Balu Nistani.
However, at the recently held elections, Balu was not re-elected as panchayat member and since then he was pestering the panchayat to remove the cage from where it was placed claiming that the land belongs to him.
The panchayat wanted to discuss this matter at its meeting and then act. However, Balu Nistani reportedly began harassing the panchayat employee and even abused him and threatened to assault him.
Fed up with the harassment, the panchayat this evening removed the cage and placed it in panchayat property.
