PANJIM, OCT 6
The State Transport department is thinking to reschedule all its public transport routes, which is a fall out of the drive conducted to regulate the private and Kadamba Transport Corporation buses.
“At the end of this exercise, we will have the ready data of the overcrowded routes and also the routes which fall short of the passengers,” Transport Director Arun Desai said.
Transport Department has initiated the drive to check overloading, non wearing of uniform by drivers and conductors, shutting of the door and chewing of tobacco by the drivers and conductors. The department has booked 250 people for the various offences.
Desai said that there are various routes which are overcrowded while many fall short of passengers.
“We will analyse the data scientifically and come out with the proper scheduling of the routes,” he said adding that even the routes of Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) will be reviewed.
“In some villages catered by KTCL, big buses are left empty due to less passengers. On these routes, smaller buses can ply,” he suggested.
Private bus operators in the past had demanded that the routes be rescheduled to give them level playing field.
Transport director said that the current drive to regulate the public transport system is not aimed only towards the private bus operators.
“We are also having random check of Kadamba buses. But the violation of laws by them is less because it is mandatory for them to wear uniform and also they have their own internal checks to curb ticketless travel,” Desai said.
