PONDA: Two puppies guarding the house alerted the family about the leopard’s presence at the doorsteps, at Amarkhan-Querim, on Sunday midnight.
According to Survesh Satarkar, the incident took place at around 12 am on Sunday. The loud barking of puppies in the gallery of house woke me up. After switching on the gallery light, I was caught by surprise and frightened to see a leopard in the gallery. The leopard, with the lights presence, immediately moved out and set in front of the house for almost 17 seconds, waiting for a chance to attack the puppies.
Survesh from inside the house window video filmed the leopard for around 17 seconds but when he tried to open the window mirror, the leopard got alerted due to the sound and left the scene.
Satarkar’s recorded video of leopard outside the house went viral on social media. He said, “Around 20 houses are there in this area.”
“I could not dare to come out when I saw the leopard in front of my house. The leopard might have chased the dogs for food in the area which ran till my house and made good escape. But just at that time, the leopard might have seen the two puppies in my gallery following which tried to enter the house but timely barking by the puppies might have kept him aback,” Satarkar said.
He said, “The leopard appeared fully grown.”
Following the news of leopard sighting, the Forest Officer visited the area. The locals said past few days leopard was spotted in the Querim area.
