Purchase vaccines from abroad if needed: MLA

MARGAO: Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro has urged the government immediately purchase vaccine from manufacturers abroad if the Central government is unable to supply the doses.

In a letter to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant in these regards on Tuesday, Luizinho expressing deep concern for people of Goa said that for the sake of the safety of Goans the government needs to procure the vaccine to cover the entire population of the State in a time-bound manner.

“The overload of the current computerized portal due to the rush of thousands of people trying to register their names to get themselves vaccinated has created widespread anxiety amongst the locals who may start agitations in every village”, he said.

He pointed out that number of vaccination centres should be enough to prevent long queues and unnecessary waiting.

He also asked the government to give priority to the vaccination of seafarers as per the orders from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

On Wednesday, he visited the new roundabout at the National Highway and Western Bypass Junction at Belem, Telaulim-Navelim followed by four road junction in front of Navelim Church. “It was very disappointing to note that the pace of work is slow, clumsy, and incomplete. I am happy that newly appointed Executive Engineer of National Highways has now taken keen interest to complete the works before the ensuing monsoons”, he said.
