MARGAO: The Shadow Council for Margao (SCM) has submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate to put restrictions on campaigning to prevent the risk of COVID spread.
SCM has decided to embark on a contactless campaign to ensure social distancing is maintained.
Savio Coutinho alleged that there are campaigns going on for the Margao Municipal Council election by political parties with 30 and 40 persons.
“There is a restriction on festivals but, no other restrictions,” he charged.
“Now that the election has been declared, we have to make sure that we don’t risk the lives and wellbeing of the polity of Margao,” Savio said.
Adv Seoula Vaz said, “Since the election is a festival of democracy and the Section 144 CrPC should also have been applied to election like religious festivals. Not just us, but all the political parties should consider following our methods to make sure we don’t go spreading the virus.”
