Pvt bus service resumes in Ponda on ‘partial basis’

PONDA: The Ponda Taluka Bus Owners Association’ on Wednesday resumed the private bus service in the taluka on a “partial basis” by plying only a few buses to ensure passengers are not inconvenienced.

It may be recalled that the operators had shut the bus service last week after claiming that they had suffered losses during the fortnight by maintaining social distancing and for plying with 50 per cent passenger capacity due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

Addressing media persons, Association president  Nitin Gobre said, “Earlier we shut the bus service as we incurred losses due to 50 per cent passenger capacity with social distancing. However, when the government assured to come out with solution to our problems within a week, we decided resume the service by plying a few buses. We noticed that passengers were facing hardship as the few KTC buses fell short of the requirement.”

He said the bus operators discussed their problems with Chief Minister and the Transport Minister hoping that their problems would be solved within a week.
