Pvt residency found releasing ‘sewage’ into Sancoale stream

Panchayat serves 15-day ultimatum on residency with direction to initiate measures to stop the flow of ‘sewage’

VASCO: Following a joint inspection of an educational institution and a residency, Sancoale panchayat on Monday served a 15-day ultimatum on the private building located near a natural stream asking it to initiate measures to stop the flow of “sewage” into the stream.
Sancoale panchayat during a joint inspection of a reputed educational institution and a private residency building, it was observed that the “sewage” was released into the natural stream at Bondeabhat, Sancoale.
After the inspection, secretary Krishna Gaude informed that following complaints from Bondeabhat locals, the panchayat carried a joint inspection of the three parties to check the “sewage” release into the stream. During the inspection it was found that the private residency was releasing “sewage” into the stream.
Gaude revealed that the residency representative said a few days ago the sewage pipeline got damaged and there were chances of “sewage” flowing into stream. The representative informed that they have repaired the sewage pipeline.
Asked whether the panchayat has imposed any fine on the private residency, Gaude said no fine has been imposed as panchayat is yet to receive inspection report from the Goa State Pollution Control Board. 
“We have served a 15-day ultimatum on the private residency to take measures to stop the flow of sewage into the stream,” secretary informed.
Later, representative of the educational institution clarified that during the joint inspection; their representative explained to all concerned that their institution is treating the wastewater generated by their campus at its sewage treatment plant.
