VASCO: Following a Herald report on the water crisis in the Vidyanagar residential area near MES College Zuarinagar, Assistant Engineer, PWD Vasco, Vishwambar Bhende and his team met the aggrieved residents on Tuesday evening. After giving the residents a patient hearing, Bhende assured them that his team would regularise water supply in the area in the next few days.
It may be recalled that on April 7, 2016, the residents of Vidyanagar, Zuarinagar had threatened to confront the concerned PWD officials on April 15, as well as block the NH17 B, over the water crisis faced by them since the last few weeks.
“The PWD officials met us and have assured that they would first figure out the root cause behind the water crisis and if required, the pipeline, which is old, would also be replaced and the work would kick-start from Wednesday, said Edward Fernandes, president of Vidyanagar Residents’ Welfare Association (VRWA).
The PWD also assured us that it would expedite the commissioning of an overhead water tank at Zhari, Zuarinagar to resolve our water woes,” he added.
Meanwhile, PWD sources informed Herald that Sidharth and Bharat Nagar colony residents are facing a major water crisis. The department has formed a team and would physically verify the entire pipeline in these colonies at Vidyanagar.
“We have already prepared the estimate to lay a new pipeline for both colonies and once the work is completed, we are sure that the residents would get sufficient water soon,” sources added.
