PANJIM: The Public Works Department has put up a Rs 60 crore proposal for creating supporting infrastructure for the Lusofonia Games, which it hopes to complete in time for the mega event.
“The infrastructure works are mostly roads-related,” said Principal Chief Engineer J S Rego while speaking to Herald, on Tuesday.
Three major works are proposed to be undertaken by the PWD as supporting infrastructure for the Lusoufonia Games for improvement of routes leading to the Games venues.
The Rs 42 crore NIO to Goa Medical College road tops the priority list to facilitate access to the Bambolim games venue.
The Nuvem by-pass road work estimated at Rs 9 crore and improvement of the junction near the new south Goa collectorate to facilitate access to the Nehru Stadium is estimated to cost approximately Rs 4.5 crore.
“The works are already in the tendering stage and we should be able to complete it by November,” Rego said.
The PWD has already sought funds from the government to undertake the works.
Interestingly, the government has not assigned the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) any works for the Lusofonia Games.
Questions are being raised as to how the PWD would complete the Lusofonia related road works in the next four months as it is unable to undertake road repairs of its existing roads which are in a dilapidated condition due to the monsoons.
