VASCO: Believe it or not, the Vasco PWD roads division officials in their official reply to the Mormugao deputy collector have blamed JICA officials for the dilapidated condition of the road leading to Navy Children School at Chicalim.
On June 4, after Herald highlighted the issue of dilapidated condition of the road leading to Navy Children School at Chicalim, GOACAN coordinator Roland Martins took cognizance of the Herald report and wrote to the deputy collector requesting him to take up the matter urgently as the issue was pertaining to the safety of school students and other residents of Chicalim.
Acting on Martin’s letter, on June 6, Mormugao Deputy Collector Mahadev Araundekar wrote to assistant engineer PWD (roads), Vasco, asking him whether measures have been taken to repair the road having full of potholes at Chicalim.
In reply to Araundekar’s letter, on June 9, Assistant Engineer P M Naik claimed that the potholes developed on the road at Chicalim were due to laying of water pipeline by JICA.
“Although several letters and verbal requests were made to JICA office, nothing has been done by them to reinstate the road for the last one year and therefore you may contact JICA office for action,” Naik wrote as in his reply.
The deputy collector has now written to JICA officials to repair the road.
