PANJIM: After much delay, the displaced kiosk owners, who saw their temporary structures outside Goa Medical College demolished in July 2021, will be rehabilitated as Public Works Department (PWD) has confirmed completing the construction of the permanent structures.
In a letter to Deputy Collector (Tiswadi) on Monday, Executive Engineer (II) informed that the constructions of 63 gaddas/kiosks outside the GMC are complete and these are to be handed over to the affected parties.
As such, the EE said that the matter will be discussed with the Collector’s Office in this regard.
After the demolition of the temporary structures, which were cited as illegal by the government, the affected owners of the kiosks managed to get their rehabilitation process after close to two months of protest at the site. Their problem did not end their wait for the allotment took a considerable time. They stated that the contractor handed over the kiosks to the PWD over two months back but the PWD had not submitted the file to Collectorate for further allotment.
With the latest development, the vendors hope to restart their business, Inacio Donmic Pereira, who spearheaded the campaign for the former said.
