PWD contract workers demand implementation of 7th Pay Commission

PANJIM: The contract workers employed in Public Works Department (PWD) staged a sit-in before the office of PWD principal chief engineer at Altinho on Tuesday, demanding immediate implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission benefits with effect from January 1, 2016 to all the workers employed in PWD through the PWD Labour Supply Society.

The sit-in also highlighted the other pending issues/grievances of the workers employed in the PWD Labour Supply Society such as equal pay for equal work for all categories of work at par with other permanent government employees employed in PWD along with periodic revision in Dearness Allowance and other attendant benefit such as paid leave, bonus etc.

The protestors also demanded enhance their earned leave from the present 15 days to 30 days to bring it on par with the government employees and to revise their sick leave from nine days per annum to 10 days per annum. They also demanded that the casual leave be enhanced to a minimum nine days per annum and to allow the accumulation of earned leave as per the government employees. 

They demanded that all those workers who are working in the sewage treatment plants and in hazardous work operations must be provided safety wear and safety equipments to safeguard their health and safety.
