PWD contract workers to create an artificial water crisis in State

PANJIM: The Public Work Department’s (PWD) Contract Workers Union has resolved to create an artificial water crisis in the State.

Following a general body meeting on the union, leader Ajitsingh Rane announced a ‘Pani-Bani’ Andolan. He was accompanied by activist Swati Kerkar.
“Pani-Bani Andolan will be a kind of a strategy where we will create an artificial water crisis in the State. We will launch the strike when the Assembly is in session. The PWD Minister and the government should be blamed for the crisis,” Rane said.
Asked when the andolan will be launched, he said, “Anytime during the Assembly session, if we don’t get an assurance on the floor of the House, we will launch our andolan.”
Rane also said they will demonstrate outside government establishments in all talukas on a particular day during the Assembly session but refused to disclose the date of the protest.
“On one day, we will demonstrate in all 12 talukas simultaneously outside government establishments. We will completely paralyse work on that day,” Rane said.
The PWD contract workers union passed a resolution demanding regularisation of their services which will hike their salary and release of pending salary of workers.
“For the last four to seven months the salary has been kept on hold by the department,” Kerkar said. The current monthly salary of the contract workers is Rs 4,500.
