PANJIM: The Public Works Department (PWD) has extended One-Time settlement (OTS) scheme for the defaulted water consumers by another two months.
This is the fourth time the OTS scheme called the “Dues Recovery and Settlement Scheme 2020-21” has been extended by the government in its effort to recover water bill charges accumulated arrears amounting to Rs 71.92 crore as on October 31, 2020.
According to information given by PWD Chief Engineer Santosh Mhapne, up to June 15, 2021, the PWD has recovered Rs 6.32 crore from 2,714 defaulters.
He said that as many as 4,093 defaulting consumers, both domestic and non-domestic had applied for OTS scheme at five PWD Divisions, of which 2,714 consumers have been cleared and 1,379 applications are pending for clearance.
The total bill amount was over Rs 680.6 crore out of which Rs 60.08 crore was waived off and the total revised bill amount was Rs 9.02 crore.
The scheme which is again notified by the State government will be applicable to the defaulted consumers whose cases are referred to the revenue recovery courts and whose installations are temporarily or permanently disconnected as on October 31, 2020 for non-payment of outstanding arrears.
