The Farmer’s Club of Kurdi Wadem, Sanguem, has threatened to stage a protest rally to the Sanguem PWD office, if the paperwork pertaining to widening and hot mixing of the road from Ganvli Waddo-Wadem to Netravali is not taken up immediately.
“The Club has given a 15-day deadline to the department to complete the formalities failing which the villagers will not shy away from leading the agitation,” said Kurdi Wadem Farmers Club President Francisco Fernandes.
“Since the past several months, the villagers have been demanding widening and hot mixing of the road which is in bad shape, but the department seems to be hardly bothered in getting the paperwork done towards the project,” claimed Fernandes.
Speaking further, Fernandes stated that the government at the time of shifting the Selaulim evacuees at Wadem Rehabilitation Colony had assured all possible facilities to ease any problems faced by the evacuees.
“However, despite several decades having passed since the displacement of Selaulim evacuees, the government has failed in providing the desired facilities to the evacuees, including proper road facilities,” claimed Fernandes.
Another villager Joseph Cardozo told Herald that it was only after a rasta roko that PWD authorities repaired and undertook the hot mixing of the road leading to Ganvli Waddo from Bhati and the remaining stretch of about 9 kms of road from Ganvli Waddo to Netravali remains to be widened and hot mixed as of date.
Fernandes has therefore called on PWD authorities to complete the process towards the hot mixing and widening of the road from Ganvli Waddo to Netravali failing which an agitation is on the cards.
