VALPOI: Public Works Department (PWD) officials, on high court directives inspect the root cause of severe water crisis of Pissurlem village, now over a year, and completely dependent on water tankers. The report created by PWD would be produced before the court and hearing will take place today. The inspection was conducted by Bhicholim PWD Executive Engineer Tivrekar, Assitant Engineer Soma Naik, Junior Engineer Yogesh Sawant along with the villagers of various wards.

Once enjoying abundant flow of water, the North Goa village now left high and dry due to mining works. In 2020 the farmers approached the High Court for water to be pumped from abandoned mining pits for irrigation. When that was not initiated the farmers protested, leading to their arrest. The farmers had also written to concerned authorities and the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant about the High Court directives but in vain.

“We have shown all the wards to the PWD officials and told them how we are facing acute problem due to water shortage. The officials have taken the all reports and hearing will be held on 6 April,” said farmer leader Hanumant Parab.
