PWD installs speed-breakers at Uzro-Raia junction

Number of accidents have occurred at this notorious ‘killer road’; multiple safety measures, including speed limits, road markings, and crash barriers in the offing

MARGAO: Following the public outcry over the spate of accidents occurring at Uzro-Raia on the Margao-Ponda highway, the PWD installed hump-style speed-breakers at this junction.

It may be recalled that just earlier this week, there was a spot at this junction which has been given the moniker ‘killer road’ by locals.

On Friday, PWD Superintending Engineer Prasad V Panandikar briefed the media and explained that earlier there were rumblers on this stretch, which had been removed ahead of the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Goa as this was the secondary route.

Panandikar added that speed-breakers were needed at this spot due to the number of accidents and added that these speed-breakers, also known as table top speed-breakers, would ensure that vehicles mandatorily and compulsory, slowdown, which would prevent accidents from taking place at this spot.

He further added PWD is committed to making the roads safer than what they were before and that as per the new road safety policy, they will be implementing multiple safety measures such as installing speed-breakers. It would also include installing signboards indicating speed limits as well as road markings and crash barriers which would be set up at critical spots on the highways.
