PANJIM: Fate of nearly 360 candidates, who were selected for various posts in the Public Works Department (PWD), hangs in the balance after government kept on hold the recruitment process, pending vigilance inquiry into the alleged recruitment scam. Most of the candidates, on Tuesday, held a protest march at the Chief Minister’s residence demanding justice.

A three-member Vigilance Committee has been formed to inquire into the allegations levied by BJP MLA Atanasio Monserrate, who had charged the recruitment scam in PWD is worth Rs 70 crore.

On Tuesday, several candidates, who claimed to have been selected for various posts on merit basis, marched to Chief Minister’s residence and submitted a representation demanding that the vigilance inquiry be expedited and their recruitment process be continued.

Due to prior engagements, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant was not available at his residence and as such CMO assured to give fresh appointment to the candidates, within next two-days.

Speaking to the media persons, candidates said that there are 360 candidates, who have got selected for various posts in PWD and the government’s decision to keep the recruitment on hold, has shocked them.

They said that they all possess valid degree from the reputed colleges, affiliated to the Goa University.

“We are not against vigilance inquiry but we want the inquiry to be expedited so that truth comes out,” they said.

The candidates urged political leaders not to make their careers as their “political agenda” ahead of elections.

“We are not against any party or MLA, but those who are terming it as scam should prove it…they should not play with our career…or make our career as their political agenda,” they said.

They also said that the only reason why they have come out to protest is because we have not done any illegality. “We are not going to keep quiet,” they said.
