MARGAO: PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral has shown willingness to deliberate on the demands of the people from Benaulim to build the full stretch of 2.75 kilometres of western bypass on stilts, if necessary.
He was speaking to media, here, on the sideline of a book release function organised at Ravindra Bhavan. The Minister also assured to remove the mud before the monsoon.
Cabral also hinted to suggest the 10-member committee constituted upon the orders of National Green Tribunal to re-think on the plans in order to fulfil the demands of the people.
“We must keep in mind that the 10-member committee was constituted in order to study the matter and come up with the solution so that the environment and ecology is protected. There were no political leaders in the committee, but all experts. The plans were made taking into consideration the effect of the next 100 years,” he stated.
He said Royla Fernandes, petitioner in the NGT had already had talks with him regarding the western bypass.
“The works of western bypass will be executed in a scientific manner. As suggested by the 10-member committee, a stretch of 1.2 kilometres will be built on stilts, but I will consult with the committee if there is need of changes pertaining to building the remaining stretch of western bypass on stilts,” Cabral said.
