When people are expecting a new look, PWD provided a patchwork for some of the potholed roads in Canacona including the highway section passing through the taluka, but well in time to allow the people to celebrate the Ganesh festival.
Workers engaged by PWD to give healing touches to some roads in the taluka since couple of days ago reportedly completed the tasks well in time to allow the people to celebrate the festival.
Village and interior roads in some areas were also given a facelift with the PWD team working on to fill potholes and cracks, which people anticipated in view of scheduled Ganesh festival.
Roads leading to Agonda village, Palolem beach, Ponsulem, Xeller, Shristhal, besides the main stretches of some interior streets and dilapidated open spaces near KTC bus stand at Chaudi town surprisingly got the attention of PWD well in time to give a respected outlook for the festival.
Some locals speaking to Herald expressed satisfaction, that at least this year PWD acting without in public representations or protests to repair the roads, as people literarily run on roads during the procession taking Ganesh idols for immersions.
It may be recalled that last year, citizens were in arms with the government, launching several protests and submitting memorandums through various bodies to repair the unmotorable and most dilapidated highway and other roads.
However, several other interior roads in the taluka are badly devastated in the recent monsoon rains and are awaiting attention from the PWD, informed social worker Dayanand Pagui.
