VASCO, AUG 17
The PWD (Road Section) on Tuesday afternoon demolished two encroached structures on the acquired NH-17B land near the Dabolim Junction.
According to reports, one commercial vulcanizing shop and a residential structure along the NH-17B encroached on PWD land faced axe, after Sub-Divisional Magistrate Mormugao ordered demolition of the structures on Tuesday.
Residential structure owner Achut Mahale claimed that he has not received any demolition order notice from the deputy collector’s office from Mormugao, while vulcanized shop owner Amar Singh Tomar claimed that he has received the notice prior to demolition.
Vasco Police were at the site to avoid any law order problem, while Joint Mamlatdar Brijesh Manerkar was also present at the site.
Speaking to media, Manerkar said both the structures were constructed after PWD had acquired the land for NH-17B and owners are aware that the structures are illegally built on the highway property. However, he refuted the charges that demolition notice was not served to the owners of structures, as PWD and Depury Collector’s office after completing all the formalities carried out the demolition on Tuesday.
