MARGAO: Taking cognisance of a complaint forwarded by Nelson Lopes from Chinchinim to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) regarding sound pollution passing on rumblers at the Dandevaddo junction, which was later forwarded by the Union Ministry of Roads and Highways to the Public Works Department (PWD), an update has been provided by the State government.
“Your complaint was examined by the PWD upon my directives. The said rumblers have been temporarily removed by the department during the resurfacing of the said road. The Executive Engineer-XIV (EE), National Highway (NH), has written to the Secretary of the Chinchinim Panchayat asking their comments to whether these rumblers are to be reinstalled or not,” said PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral in his reply to Lopes.
In the letter sent by PWD to the Chinchinim Panchayat secretary regarding the said complaint, it was conveyed that the rumblers were initially installed as per the suggestions from the local traffic cell to keep a check on speeding vehicles. The PWD EE however added that their office has received several complaints/grievances from locals regarding noise created and its adverse effects when a heavy vehicle passes over rumblers, especially when at nights.
“Therefore, the locals are pressing hard to remove these rumblers. In view of the above, as the existing rumblers are about to be installed back on the newly hot mixed NH-66 road stretch at Dandevaddo junction, the Chinchinim panchayat is hereby requested to offer their comments on whether the rumblers are to be reinstalled,” said the EE.
